Can't boot up my pc after using AVG rescue disk

I have done as you suggested and on startup, the pc goes into Automatic Repair and then displays a light blue screen with the following message:

Your pc needs to be repaired
The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

file: \windows\system32\drivers\avgboota.sys is corrupt or missing.
error code 0x000000f

This above is part of the automatic repair from windows 10.

You will need to use recovery tools to fix this.

Did not meet my expectations? It broke my pc and caused untold hours of work to get it restored. Your post of how to use the AVG Rescue disk is wrong and needs to be changed to prevent others from having this issue.

I realize I was using the free version of your product and in the past this has always been a good tool but I'm not sure if it still is… Thankis for taking the time to listen and to respond to me.

After the latest microsoft and AVG updates, I decided to restart my pc and now it won't reboot. I followed the article about what to do when your pc will not start based on the message I got (it was something about phase 0 and phase 1) and renamed the avg files in the drivers directory from .sys to .old. Now the PC fails with a message that says the avgboota.sys is damaged. Apparently I was not to rename that file but did and now I can't get back to change it back. Neither can I get past the boot process to restore or reset my PC. What can I do to correct this issue? Below is the article I referenced.

My pc is a Lenovo 64bit running Windows 10 latest version.

| AVG

I get a windows message saying that avgboota.sys is missing or corrupt and that I should fix it. Would like to but can't yet.

I can not get past initial boot process. Apparently AVG changes the boot sector to reference AVG boot info. So I can not boot into safe mode, nor can I use my W10 system repair disk to repair or restore from a good restore point nor can I reset to factory result since that partition appears to be locked according to error messages I get when trying…

I tried going into cmd prompt thinking I could rename the files I changed earlier but they do not appear in the drivers directory any longer… I suspect they are still there but hidden or inaccessible since I changed filetype to .old

Unless there is another way to fix these files, I'm thinking of pulling the hard drive out of the laptop and hooking it up as an external drive and then save all my data. Then flatten the pc and reload from w8.1 cd's and then hopefully reupgrade to W10… But I'm concerned about getting back to Win10 since I downloaded it and upgraded the Win 8.1 that came with the laptop and now MS is charging for the W10 upgrade…

And no I did not reset to the hard drive as first boot but there is no USB or CD in the pc so it should default to it.

I request you to change your first  booting device to Hard drive and then restart your PC. Only if you do this, your Operating system will get loaded.
Please let us know the status of this.

Thanks fpr getting back to me but I have had to completely reformat my hdd and I'm in the process of reloading it and getting my files back. As of now, I am sick of this product. It has caused me three days of heartache trying to get my system back and I will never use AVG again because of this fiasco.

And all because I used the AVG rescue disk and your last response to me was to do it again? I think not…

Thank you for understanding and booting your device by changing the first booting device to hard drive.
We request you to try our AVG Rescue CD once.

When you turn on your PC what is the exact message that you receive on  the screen?
Have you tried booting your PC into safe mode?
Did you change the first booting device to Hard drive  after using the AVG Rescue CD?
