Zbynek,  thank you for your suggestion, I will try this tonight.

I did just delete some 2011-2012 Avg files, but it hasn't helped.

All the other files appear to be within the last few months.

Not sure if this is even an AVG issue, but I'm trying to find an answer, if possible.

Whenever I try to download anything at all to my laptop, it appears to be downloading, but after the security scan, (I have AVG Free Basic 2015), a 'couldn't be downloaded' message appears.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Try uninstall AVG completely (temporarily) and delete all AVG folders (if there are any) in program files. If that don't help either than it is not related to AVG.
