Fellow computer scientists, can anyone tell me if the AVG removal tool or AVG internet security program will not work on a computer that is not equipped with SSE2 capabilities? I have a HP XT 868 computer, it has AMD ATHLON processor, the computer was made around the year 2000 because it came with the ME OS on it, later I installed XP and run that today with SP 3 and all updates, however when I went to install the new AVG Internet security, the computer tells me it has to have SSE2 in order to install, same with Fire Fox, I used to be able to install these programs but now cant. I’m tight to FIGURE out if it’s my computer or if the programs have been modified so now they won’t install. I’m sure there is someone who is really smart out there that can answer this question and maybe others have the same problem. I went to download an early version of Firefox to test, and all I got out of the computer was a box that said no internet connection so I know that was not true. I had good internet connection, other web sites worked good, So just wondering if there is something wrong with the XP program installed or if there is more to this than MEETS the eye. All other aspects of the computer work fine. I know this is AVG BLOG but trying to figure out why AVG wont load. That’s all I know.

Yes, the older versions were compatible with sse2. However, the latest version of AVG does not support the processor older than sse2.
Sounds good, I think Athlon did not add SSE2 untill 2003 and my computer is ealrier than that, BUT i was able to install AVG back in 2015, did AVG change anyting since then on the program ? just wondering is all, I have no problem installing AVG on my older Dell GX 260 and 270s, those run Pet 4 processors- My HP XT 868 just lists AMD Atholn as the processor not AMD Atholn 64 when i look under computer properties.
Thank you for the fast response
Joe
