Can't print with VPN active

1. Are you using wireless printer or Wired printer? 
2. Confirm the version of operating system installed in your device. 
3. Let us know the make and model of the Printer.
4. Could you please restart the device and check whether its working?

i have changed the setting to 'enable local device access when using VPN' - printer still didn't work
suggestion to change from public to private network - did that - printer still didn't work
laptop and printer are both on the same network
as soon as i disable the VPN everything works perfectly
any suggestions please?

3. Let us know the make and model of the Printer. lexmark b2236dw
4. Could you please restart the device and check whether its working? restarted both laptop and printer - printer works fine with the vpn off, turn on vpn again, it doesn't work again
