Can't tell while AVG is scanning computer

Thank you Balas … I am hoping there is a way to display a symbol in my bottom toolbar so that I donnot need to open up the AVG program in order to see if it is running … when using Windows XP there would be a display in the bottom tool bar … guess I like how "it used to be" and cannot get used to all of the changes that have been taking place with everything. Because of a brain injury, I cannot even use a smart phone and that is why I would like to make it as simple as possible. However, if I understand you correctly, it is as it is and the only way to find out is to open up the program. Is that correct?

Hello MIMI,

The scanning of AVG program can be confirmed by opening the interface or viewing through the AVG system tray icon context menu or the popup that says scan has been initiated.
If you would like to provide a feedback for adding a feature on the icon, please use this link: http://www.avg.com/product-feedback
Thank you.

when AVG performs its scans how can I add a display or symbol while it is running simply so I know it is scanning?

Hello MIMI,

No problem, MIMI. You can call him as Balas.
If you have provided the feedback for adding this feature, it will reach our developers and it can be implemented in mere future.
The popup will definitely appear on the start and end of the scheduled scan.
From the popup appearance, we can find that the scan is running. If you have any important work at the time of scan you can open the interface and stop the scan.
The scan progress can be viewed only if you open up the interface.
You are most welcome, MIMI.
Opening up the program is one of the way to find the scanning progress.
The other way is that you can find the AVG icon on the "System Tray" which is near the clock.
When you right click on the AVG system tray icon you will get a small window that will have options to open AVG Interface, Open AVG Internet Security, Scan Computer and Protection status.
Below AVG Internet Security if the scan is running it will be displayed as "Scanning". If it is not running then it will remain with option as "Scan Computer"
The above mentioned options will appear only if you have the latest AVG 2017 version.

Also, I would like to provide the recommendation in upgrading your Windows XP to the later version because the support and update for the Windows XP are no longer available from Microsoft. The program that you are installing on XP may face any issues since the operating system is not upgraded to the latest version.
If you upgrade to the latest version of Windows you can avoid many problems with the installation of the program and update.

Mimi,

I really appreciate you helping us improve our process–we don’t want this to happen again. You can submit a feedback for adding a feature on the AVG icon, please use this link: http://www.avg.com/product-feedback.

Balas, Thank you again ... and I hope my abbreviation of your name is acceptable. As for the extensive information you have kindly provided on how AVG is set up I somewhat understand what you have posted. Perhaps AVG will make it possible in the future to view the scan taking place in the lower tool bar (in the clock area) just to know that it is running. Sometimes a feature like a scan running in the background affects my computer performance.  .... Yesterday I had Dell doing extensive work on my system and AVG began its scan. I wasn't able to quickly stop it and I couldn't tell how long it was running because there was nothing displayed in the toolbar. .... That's life. I'll wait and see how it goes. Thanks again, Balas, have a good day.
