Hello Lynn,
I understand the inconvenience.
Please run (AVG clear tool) to remove the traces of AVG Internet Security 2017 version.
To install AVG Internet Security follow the steps as mentioned (here).
Keep us informed about the status.

I have a message, "Not Protected" and when I click on it, there's another message that says "Virus Definitions Are Out of Date." When I click the "Update Now" button, it starts the download but quickly stops and shows another message saying the definitions are up to date. Am I up to date … or not? And if not, what do I need to do to actually complete the update?

I am having a similar problem… however, after receiving the same messages as Tracy, I tried resetting AVG to factory settings, then "repairing" AVG. This seemed to work for several hours, but when I switched on the next day, I started getting messages about the virus definitions being out of date. Now when I try to update, it quickly aborts the attempt, with an "unknown error" message. I tried following the suggestions in your message Avinash, but I couldn't uninstall AVG. Trying to uninstall it normally, it seemed to try to uninstall AVG free (I have AVG Internet Security - paid for) and failed. Then I downloaded and used the AVG remover tool - but the only program it gave me the option of removing was PC TuneUp.
Any suggestions?
