Can't use avg software that I bought and paid for?

I bought the avg ultimate software in Dec 2020 and have not been able to use it ? I have tried 5 or 6 times to get help from  avg  tech. support and have not been able to get any ?  When I try to use the software  to update my drives it ask me. Do I want to update my drives by the month or year and then tells me it will cost me so much for each drive to be updated ? I just tried to use it again and it's telling me that my software has exp. and I need to buy it all over again.  Is this a case of we take your money and run ???
