Hi, I normally have my VPN location set to London, which is my optimal location, being as I am in the UK. Recently, I started getting ads and suggested videos on Youtube in Japanese, and more recently I am getting eastern european language ads. I have finally realised this was not a browser problem, but the VPN, showing as set to Prague as the Optimal Location. My real IP is definitely reflecting my UK location so it's not that.
However, just to be sure I disconnected my router for a few minutes to get a fresh real IP, and now the VPN thinks Brussels is the Optimal Location.
Not noticed this problem before. What's the problem?
Thanks.
Hello Mark,
Initially' we'd like to inform you that the 'Optimal Location' is not a location nearest to your but the server which has the best connectivity.
We request you to change the location of your AVG Secure VPN to a different location (Preferably close to you or any one of the P2P servers) & check if the issue persists.
Thanks in advance. Keep us updated.
Glad to know that, Mark. Thank you for updating the status. Have a great day. Stay safe!
Thanks for the offer but I think I'll pass. I have no experience of allowing remote access and the concept makes me nervous! I think I will deactivate the copy of AVG VPN I currently have, expunge it from my system, then reinstall a fresh download, activate it with my subscription key and see if that helps.
I notice Prague instead of the desired location being mentioned in one or two other posts since my initial one. Interesting. Coincidence?
Thanks again for the help.
I have tried several times to change location to UK, London or UK, Wonderland and although the display then says my location will show as asked for, the IPs provided actually point to Frankfurt, or sometimes Prague Fortunately the UK, Glasgow location still seems ok, but something is amiss with the other two UK locations just now.
Mark, we appreciate your efforts.
Could you try reinstalling the product and verify if the issue persists?
Hi, I have now deleted the old copy of AVG VPN and reinstalled and activated a fresh download. This seems to have eliminated the problem and things are now working normally again.
The old copy was acting interestingly, in that when the VPN was off and showing the red colour on the front panel, it was displaying Brussels as the selected and optimal location but once I turned the VPN on it immediately switched by itself to showing London as the location, also described as the optimal location, and it actually was London as confirmed by iplocation.net.
Anyway, all fixed now by reinstalling. Thanks.
update - I changed my VPN location from Glasgow to the listed optimal location of Brussels just now, but what I got was London according to iplocation.net. Also, the front panel of the program actually stated that the location was now London AND that it was the optimal location, even though the locations list for the change option still shows Brussels at the top, and as the optimal location.
Hope that helps.
Appreciate your efforts in working towards fixing the issue, Mark.

continued - and no, I haven't had time to download a fresh install of the VPN yet.
