Chrome and Opera settings not saving unless AVG is uninstalled

Hello Jee,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
We are really sorry to know that you are unable to save bookmark or settings in your browsers when AVG Antivirus enabled.
We'll certainly check and help you out.
As per your findings, the App Data folder not updated, the issue may be due to Ransomware Protection feature or Core Shield feature.
Could you please provide us with more details about the situation, and we will do our best to help you resolve it efficiently.
We suggest you try after disabling Ransomware Protection feature and Core Shield feature in AVG Antivirus Free application and check if bookmarks can be saved in browsers.
Please let us know if disabling the above features helped to resolve the issue.
Thank you and keep us updated.

I had the same problem for the last 3 days with Google Chrome. I have narrowed it down to the AVG "Behavior Shield" module. Removing the complete module and then do a full computer restart seemed to solve the issue. I was able to reinstall the module again together with the "Ransomware Shield" subcomponent and everything is still working with Coogle Chrome as it should. I hope this helps to pinpoint the exact bug.

I recently noticed that neither Chrome nor Opera were saving bookmarks or settings. Upon closer examination, I discovered that their respective configurations files at AppData -folder didn't get updated either and were in use by another program even if I closed browsers.

I then discovered that if I uninstalled AVG completely, this problem went away. But after reinstall, problem resurfaced so I deduced that latest version of AVG is somehow crooked.

I run AVG Antivirus Free, latest version (24.5), kept up to date automatically. Platform is Windows 10.

I disabled everything (File Shield, Behavior Shield and Ransomware Protection) but it did not do nothing to help with the situation.

What details do you need?

I did repair as instructed, restarted the computer and… problem still persists.

John Anthony is correct. I uninstalled Behaviour Shield and now problem has gone away. Bookmarks and settings are saved as expected so it's AVG that is in fault here.
