Thank you.

We have Desktop Messaging Software installed on 000's of PC's world wide. Our client base dates back to 2004 and our latest software update was June 2014. Sine about 5th / 6th May 2016 we've been having a stready stream of customers calling in saying the Desktop Messaging Software closes unexpectedly (crashes, access violation).

It looks like it's caused by an internal exception / corruption in COMCTL32.DLL. This problem only occurs when AVG is installed and active. If you disable AVG (eg, for 15 minutes), the app doesnt crash. As soon as you enable AVG, the app starts crashing again.

This status is reproducible as follows:
- start with a blank PC, install a new copy of Windows 10, or just use any existing PC .
- install our software (go to www.bulksms.com - download the Windows Desktop Messenger)
- You can claim 5 free credits if youre a first time user.
- Send at least 1 message, then go to the sent box, click on a message
- all works well.
- install AVG, go to the sent box, click on a message, the software crashes.

The crashes are not limited to our software though. There are many other software vendors reporting the same thing, they just haven't figured out it's AVG yet.

Will AVG be sorting this issue promprtly? If not, then we will have no choice but to e-mail our entire client base and alert them of this problem. Our advice would be to uninstall or disable AVG and find an alternate AV supplier until this issue has been resolved…

A temporary work around is to run the application in XP SP3 compatability mode.

Someone else created a similar post in this forum on about 7th May.
AVG causes apps to fail with error Faulting module name: ... | AVG

Any other solutions to this issue?

Hello Kishore,

This problem HAS NOT been resolved. All we've done is found a temporary workaround.

I stress again :

AVG needs to make this their highest priorety. This problem needs to be addressed with no delay. Please escalate this within your organisation so that it may get the appropriate and immediate attention.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Kishore,

Thanks for your reply. Your suggestion helped and we will offer the solution to our customers on a case by case basis as they phone in to report the problem. However, for every one customer that reports an issue, 10 won't. The end result is that we will lose customers.
