Thanks for the fast response. In the meantime I did reinstall this older version (AVG PC Tuneup) on my laptop and all is working well. I prefer this version because it offers much more possibilties to finetune the performance.

Recently I purchased and installed AVG Virusprotection on my windows laptop. With that came AVG  tuneup. The latter is the new version. I still have the older version AVG PC Tune up with a valid license (Install program: AVG PC Tuneup_765.exe). I prefer to use this rather then te new version.
Questions:
1- is the old version compatible with AVG Virus protection.
and if so:
2- Do I need to uninstall the (new) AVG Tune up that is currently running.

If I run the install program now it is aborted with the message that installation cannot be continued because of an incompatible AVG program that is running.

Yes, AVG Tuneup old version is compatible with AVG Internet Security latest version. 
To install old version, it's necessary to remove latest one. 

Refer the following article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product to run AVG Remover which uninstall AVG Tuneup completely. 

Then reinstall your old version of AVG Tuneup from our official site: https://www.avg.com/en-us/installation-files .
