This is the not the usual behavior of AVG.
Let's work together to identify the problem.
Did you change any settings in the AVG after the recent update?
Disable the AVG temporarily and check if the PC starts up again after sometime :

After the … 20.4.3125 (build 20.4.5312.580) … AVG update I could not get the internet … I was told to check off INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING MODE which solved the problem … The other problem I am now having is that the computer is turning on by itself around an hour after I shut it down.
