Since you did not have anyother Antivirus, could you please let us know have previously used any other security application on your PC?
If, yes please completely remove all those traces from your PC?
Please let us know in which operating system you are using?

My AVG stays in passive modus after entering key and restart the computer . there are no other security programs on my computer. regards Jan
