Connection to Update Server fails

Same problem (AVG Free 16.161.8048) Windows Vista Business: last successful update 8 March 2021; Event History shows the following days update failed - same ever since…
So your 'Fix' to re-enable updates would be appreciated.

(Used on this machine for several years - ditched AVG on 3 Dell 6400 Vista Premium laptops a few years back as the logon to 'welcome'/user got wrecked by a later-build - long used instals with no previous problems - then got 'wrecked' one-after-another …within a week…

I was the original poster and I uninstalled AVG entirely then downloaded the latest free version from the AVG website… The new program appears to be updating properly but there are some latency issues I still have to work out. The new version has many options the old version did not offer and perhaps this is causing the slowness.

Thank you for clarifying, AF. Please try changing the DNS settings once to check if it helps.

Hello Bob.
We regret the inconvenience.
I would request you to repair AVG (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Repair-AVG-Antivirus) to resolve the update issue.

I've used the AVG Free Anti-Virus for many years. The last few nights, the automatic update feature is returning an "Update failed" message saying it cannot reach your server. I have not added programs or made any major changes recently to my system. I do use a VPN normally but it does not seem to connect either with or without the VPN employed. Thanks for your help.

A F, we regret the inconvenience caused.
Which version of Windows operating system is installed on your PC?

The same thing is happening to me and also just started a few days ago. Every time I try to update virus definitions I get a popup that says:

"Update Failed

Sorry, we couldn’t reach our update server. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again."

When I try to do a repair, that also won't work because I get an error message saying "Connection failed - this application requires internet connectivity…"

Just like Bob, it has worked fine for years and I have made no changes at all and haven't had issues connecting to your server until this just started days ago. There is no problem with my internet connection. So I suspect it's something on your end that changed.

Please don't advise to reinstall because this is an older computer and newer versions of AVG won't install on it.

AF, we did ask you to contact us through own post in order to provide our additional support.

Please share the screenshot of the message through separate post so that we can proceed further.

Thankyou.

Hi Bob,

This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
Do you have any other security application other than AVG installed in your PC?

Hello Tin,

Could you please write your query from your own post, So, we will check our records and help you accordingly?

Also, please share the screenshot of the update failed error which you got on AVG Anti-virus. Keep us updated.

I tried a couple different DNS servers but it made no difference. Always the same Update Failed error. Considering both Bob and I have had no issue for years and started getting this same error at the exact same time, I think it is most likely a problem on your end. What do we try next?
