Copying the licence number onto a 2nd computer

I have a licence valid until 15th January 2016 and recently bought a laptop for portable use (my main computer is a desk top.

I wanted to install AVG on the Lenovo laptop and so far have only been able to install a month's free trial.  so i tried to copy the licence number (as per instructions onto the AVG on the laptop.  Obviously I couldn;t copy it from the cliboard being on a different PC so i copied it into an E mail and e mailed myself and picked it up on the laptop.  

However AVG is telling me the licence number is truncated and missing the last part.  But it is exactly the same as on the licence on my desktop.  

How can i resolve this issue as the free trial will eventually expire.

Thanks for your reply.  It looks as though I might not have a licence covering more than one PC even though I thought I had.  

How can I upgrade to extend existing licence to more than one PC, perhaps even a family licence?
