Could AVG Web Shield flag a browser-based Morse code tool as suspicious?

Hi everyone,

I run a small educational website called ⁠The Morse Lab, which includes browser-based Morse code translation and decoding tools.

Some of the tools use JavaScript and allow users to process text or images directly in the browser. I want to make sure AVG does not incorrectly classify this type of activity as suspicious, especially when a page includes file selection, image processing, or downloadable results.

Is there an official AVG tool or process for checking whether a website URL is considered safe before users report a warning? Also, if AVG Web Shield produces a false-positive alert, what information should a website owner include when submitting the site for review?

The website does not distribute software or executable files, so I am mainly interested in checking its reputation and avoiding false detections.

Thank you for reaching out. I’ve checked the reported website, and I don’t see any detection in our systems.

The best way (and tool) is to install our AVG AntiVirus FREE and perform the same actions as visitors of your website. If you spot any detection, just let me know and attach a screenshot of it.

AVG doesn’t provide a public tool that lets website owners check a URL’s reputation before a detection occurs. If your site is flagged by Web Shield, the best approach is to submit it as a false positive through AVG’s False Positive submission form.

When submitting your site, it’s helpful to include:

  • The website URL.

  • A description of what the site does.

  • Details about the page or feature that triggered the detection.

  • A screenshot of the AVG warning (if available).

  • The detection name or alert message.

  • Steps to reproduce the issue, if possible.

Since your website only performs browser-based JavaScript processing and doesn’t distribute executable files, be sure to mention that all processing happens locally in the user’s browser. This helps the review team better understand the site’s functionality.

Once submitted, AVG’s analysts will review the report and, if it’s confirmed to be a false positive, they can update their detection accordingly.
