I'm having the same issue. I have not had this issue before installing avg. It is literally using over half of my CPU and memory to the point that I can not even open up Microsoft Word. Im trying to write a paper for school and have had to reset the damned laptop 5 times already. What is the point of having anti virus if it is going to compromise the running of my laptop.

I'm running AVG Internet Security: 19.8.3108 (only one installation is running)
I'm running a quad core i7-4790k @4GHZ with 32GB RAM - Win10 Pro x64 (latest updates)
Lately its killing my computer in terms of performance maxing out my CPU and taking a lot more RAM than expected. (soon as the computer starts up)
The process is called "AVG Internet Security System Service" AVG Antivirus. Its consuming between 40% and 75% cpu and over 1.2GB RAM. The power usage is Very high and so is the power usage trend. (heaven knows why it needs so much power/cpu)
Its not running any virus scans.
This is causing me problems when trying to work and i am seriously considering uninstalling and finding an alternative product. Despite being a long term customer i am losing faith in AVG.
Does anyone have a similar issue and found any solutions?
We appreciate your effort in repairing AVG Internet Security, Piers
CPU usage of 5% - 16% is the normal behaviour for AVG. It is necessary to provide the required real time protection for the computer.

Im using AVG Ultimate 2022
Hi Bharath,
Earlier today i repaired the installation as my last ditch effort and it currently uses on average:
CPU: 5% - 16%
RAM: 732mb
Which is a lot better, but still sounds like a little too much for a security app. Whereas Malwarebytes service uses a fraction of what AVG consumes: CPU < 1% - RAM 252mb.
If it behaves, i'll keep it.
Thanks
