Hi there, I am running Windows 8.1 on an AMD A8 1.8GHz machine with 6GB or RAM.
My AVG installation is 17.4.3014. My CPU utility rate is at 90%-100% at all time. and the top 4 most CPU usage are belonging to AVG executable at all time.
AVG Service (32bit): 21.6%, AVG Watchdog Service: 19%, AVG Antivirus (32bit):18.7%, AVG Software Analyzer: 15.6%.
I can definitely tell the different when I am typing my email in Chrome after I upgraded to the recent version of AVG Free. It has greatly reduced my UI response on my general computing use, especially on Chrome and Java VM. I know those are CPU intensive application. That's why CPU performance is very important for my work.
I have followed the steps of uninstall and reinstall AVG. The process was successful but the CPU usage remind the same.

Hi,
Since I updated to the latest version of AVG Antivirus Free (17.2.3008) the use of my CPU has skyrocketed: It permanently stays between the 75 & 99%!
I checked with Process Explorer and AVGSvc.exe takes up around 40% while avgui.exe needs around 32%.
This wasn't the case with the previous version where the system used between 1 and 25% only, on a permanent basis.
Is there a way to reduce that load please?
Thanks
Robert
