Hello Carol,
Thank you for writing back to us with more information. We request you to click the link: https://support.avg.com/support_sales?l=en_US scroll down and click "contact our Technical Support" so that we'll help you live and we'll fix this issue in no time.
Thank you.
I have the same problem as Carol, but am on Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit).
Like her I have been getting upgrade reminders, tried installing but get stuck at that screen. I have tried downloading from the AVG web-site and installing it with the same effect. Also, the AVG screen, however opened, says that protection is up to date.
Can you recommend a course of action?
Thanks,
KR
Sujendran –
thanks – I did do that, used Repair from the Add/Remove Programs screen, but I'm still getting the notification, (sorry not to have replied sooner, I was away for a couple of days). Here is the screen that stalls after I've clicked on update now on the pop-up.
For everyones information --

Once I was connected to the Tech Support team, the technician went to the main AVG screen, clicked on the "protection is up to date" tab, which resulted in an update. Since I had done this before (twice), and the popup continued to come up every time I started my computer, I suggested that we reboot and wait a few minutes (the popup doesn
t appear right away). On this occasion it came up after 9 minutes (but that may vary from computer to computer), and the technician told me it was just an attempt to get one to sign up for the paid version and I could ignore it. Tech support is not able to fix this, but I pointed out the information below, and he said he would report it to the appropriate person…
since the popup (which shows up at the lower right over the tray) clearly says AVG Antivirus Free needs to be updated, this is very misleading. Also, if you look at the screen shot above, (the result of clicking on the popup) no reference to the paid version is visible, nor is any means of buying it – not going to sell many copies this way! Also, of course, theres no means of rejecting it. Which means it is going to continue to come up every time I turn on the machine...

The popup is at least very similar, if not identical, to the one that appears when there is a version upgrade, which is why I was concerned. I
m glad to know I`m not missing a version update, but how will I know when there actually is one?
In addition, I checked with my work IT, since there are several people in our group who use AVG Free with XP Pro, to see if it was just a problem with XP, but I am the only one with this problem, so it was not that.
thanks to everyone who has pitched in on this. I hope whoever designed the screens can get them sorted out!
happy wednesday

I also tried downloading from the AVG site, and the download went fine, but I wound up with a similar screen, also truncated, and again nothing happened.
I tried going through the support tab, and asked for an on-line chat, but there was no connection after half an hour, so I gave up.
How can I get this download?
My OS is Windows XP Pro. my screen resolution is 1400 x 1050.
thanks
carol

Carol, I was like you and would have to have XP pried out of my cold dead hands.
But after being on Windows 7 for a couple years, I now feel the same about this OS.
XP is not supported anymore and W7 soon will go also. We have to evolve.
Good luck.
Hello Carol,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
Please repair the AVG program with the article given: http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY. I request you to provide the screenshot for better assistance.
Thank you.
Hello Carol,
I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. I have just sent you an email with the instructions to get connected with AVG Technical Support team.
Thank you.
Sorry, sent that before I finished – I should mention that when I open AVG from either the desktop or the taskbar it says protection is up to date. Also, I can close that screen from the taskbar.
happy monday

Unless you have a better option, we can close this conversation and I'll get a different program
