Annoyance resulting from ‘Cyber Capture Scan’ introduced by AVG Internet Security update to latest version.
The Problem …
In a Visual Basic Development environment, I have 70+ small applications undergoing development or maintenance for personal use. None of these files are stored on the system drive. With the introduction of the cyber capture scan, I have a 15 second delay for initial opening for each .exe file (which I know to be safe). This will no doubt be a repeated problem after each AVG Program update or re-installation.
A similar nuisance is incurred after each visual basic .exe file re-compilation after changes.
The only immediate solution that I can see is to disable the Cyber Capture Scan. I offer you the possible improvements below.
Suggested Improvements …
1. Include the ‘cyber capture scan’ when a folder is scanned from the AVG UI and/or via windows explorer (right click on a folder). This would set the ‘ok’ flag for the .exe files, remove the need to navigate to and run 70+ files and wait 15 seconds while each is given the OK. This operation could be called upon at any time, and could be provided by an option under user ‘settings’.
2. Reduce the time taken from 15 seconds. Does it really require a 15 second delay to scan a 15k .exe file ? All of my .exe files are currently < 240k. This would help alleviate the delays during development, after re-compilation of the .exe files.
Environment : Windows 7 Professional, 32bit – fully patched.
Any other solutions available ?
