I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. I would request you to repair AVG once and try to access data safe. To repair your AVG please follow these instructions:
Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select AVG Internet Security in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.

I can't login to my data safe. After typing in my password, it just comes back with: "An unexpected error occurred" in red letters. Now I can't get into the data safe.

I understand the inconvenience. Please go to the location where Data safe files are saved. By default, all safes are stored in the Documents folder. Double click the folder and try to use the same password to open it. If the issue persists, please provide the complete screenshot of the error message to escalate the case.
