Please click on this link http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Internet_Security_742.exe to download the latest version of AVG Internet Security setup file and run it.
Run the setup and follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart the PC if the setup asked to and then check if the program updates or not.

At different times I have seen two error messages.  I am not sure which is the correct one. The first was Error 0xA0010004. The second was Error 0xe001f9e4. Thanks for thehelp. I've come to the place where I have tried all I know.

When I try to update the definition update I get a "Update failed" and General error". I'm paid up to date. Ran a scan with the old definitions and still will not update. Ideas?

Correct. It is as if it is harboring a bug inside AVG.
