Degis - malware?

Hello Chapin. My name is Jovana and I'm with AVG senior support. Please accept my apologies for the delay.

I entirely understand your concerns, but rest assured that there is nothing to worry about.

As for any software, AVG protects you from Cryptomining programs too.

You can see our general Threat Labs Clean guidelines at the following link:
AVG Clean Guidelines (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=AVG-Threat-Lab-clean-guideline)

And you can also see separate guidelines for Cryptomining behavior here: AVG Threat Labs - Cryptomining behavior guidelines (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=AVG-Threat-Lab-cryptomining-behavior-guideline)

I hope this helps and clarifies. Our duty is to protect our users from any threat on the web, and we are working on improving our services on a daily basis, so our users can keep their devices safe and protected from any malicious behaviors on the web.

Hi Chapin,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
AVG sttops viruses, spyware, and malware with six powerful layers of protection.
You can visit this link to know more about the features in AVG Antivirus.
If you suspect that there is an infection/threat in your computer, you can try running a boot time scan using AVG Antivirus.

When I connected to the internet today, an item appeared in my task manager that seemed to be called "Degis Center". It disappeared too quickly to be sure I read it clearly. A file search turned up nothing. I web-searched it and found that degis is some sort of 'decentralized finance' system associated with blockchain, which I assume basically means cryptocurrency. I had no knowledge of this before today, and have never consented to the installation of any sort of degis, blockchain, or decentralized finance software on my computer. Is AVG aware of this? Does AVG give any protection against these sorts of things? What does security software experts recommend?

Dinesh thank you. I've run the boot-time scan and it reported no malware in the resulting .txt file. I realize that, unfortunately, this does not mean there is no infection, it only means none is reported. I am concerned that, if indeed blockchain miners are using software distributed over the internet to farm processing power without the consent or even awareness from the owner/user of an infected device, that companies like AVG and Microsoft may regard it as a legitimate product or service and may take no action to guard consumers against it. Does AVG have an official policy regarding such things? How does AVG decide what is malware and what is legitimate? I am not okay with someone accessing my computer that way and I need to know what is AVG's position on it.
