Desktop shortcut appears after update

I have this same problem, too.

It is very frustrating to have to constantly delete the same desktop shortcut over and over again. When I initially installed AVG, I opted out of the desktop shortcut. Now, every time AVG updates, it is on my desktop again. I do not keep any shortcuts on my desktop so it is very annoying to me to have this added without my knowledge. I already sent feedback in the link that was provided above in the previous responses. Please do not walk me through how to delete a short cut because I am not five years old and I have had a lot of practice deleting shortcuts (thanks to AVG!).

Is there an option within the program to prevent the automatic desktop shortcuts? I have considered switching from AVG to McAfee or another less intrusive antivirus because of this problem.

Hmm. Not sure if there is a disconnect in understanding my comments… Here is my desktop.

You'll notice there is no AVG shortcut on it, because I deleted it after the last AVG update.
However, after installing AVG two weeks ago, there has been two updates to the program, and after each update, a new shortcut is added that I then have to delete.

Why does the shortcut keep adding itself to the desktop after an update? I do not want a shortcut on my desktop.

I have the exact same issue.
Google has led me to this solution.

Yes I know I've duplicated Nic's answer. He said my thoughts exactly. It seems a problem with a simple fix, and a problem your team introduced for no reason but to annoy people. Don't be spammy.
The problem is simple. Stop pretending not to understand. Every time AVG updates, it stupidly adds its icon to my clean desktop. It's not a difficult concept.

I don't require a reply.

Werner,
Sorry, please be informed that AVG latest version doesn't have such option in the settings nor during installation.

How can I solve this issue?

Hello from 2020. Same issue here, still not resolved.

Too late, I replaced AVG with another antivirus that I am very satisfied with. Besides, your team said the same thing in 2011.

I wish you and your team all the best in future, but I will personally probably never use your products again.

Yes it is, Werner.

Well, at least now I know I can stop trying…somewhat like AVG seems to have.

Hi,

I have the same issue, an unwanted AVG desktop icon keeps appearing.
How can I solve this issue?

Kind regards

When I originally installed AVG Free, I chose to not install a desktop shortcut. It seems frivilous and clutters up my desktop which I keep at a minimalist level. There are still shortcuts in my start menu, and of course, I can always open the program from the system tray. However, after the last few updates, I find the icon has been added to the desktop. I have looked through the options, and unless I have overlooked a setting, I cannot find a way to disable this behavior.

A google search returned these two posts from 2011:

https://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=146393
https://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=145895

Niether one discusses any setting to alter this program behavior, though the second link does indicate that this 'feature' was removed since April of 2011.

Is there anyway to stop this irritating behavior?
Hello Eric and Kayla,

We appreciate your patience in this matter.
Please be informed that AVG 2017 doesn't have such option in the settings nor during installation.
Your valuable feedback was passed to developers team and will be considered as possible future improvement.
Thank you.

As per your suggestion, I have asked this intrusive behavior to stop in the feedback link that was provided. In the mean time, is my only solution to stop random desktop shortcuts from appearing to uninstall?

Hmm. Not sure if there is a disconnect in understanding my comments… Here is my desktop.

What?

I didn't ask how to delete it from my desktop.

That's fairly easy to do

I want it to stop from ADDING it to my desktop after every update. I know one solution is to uninstall AVG, but that seems a bit overkill. Are you telling me this is intended behavior? This seems more like the way a virus would work than how an antivirus program should work.

Hello Ranjani Bakthavachalam,

AVG Antivirus/ Internet Security -> Menu -> About -> Product Feedback -> results in a message 'something went wrong, try again later'.

I am using program version: 17.9.3040.
Is this not the most recent version?

Kind regards,

Werner
