Detecting other VPN

Hello Glen,

We are sorry to know that you are keep getting promotion to have AVG Secure VPN in your PC. As you are using different VPN, you can disable the promotional pop-up for other AVG program. Refer the below link to know how to manage AVG pop-ups.

If you need any further clarification, please do let us know. Thank you.

I am running AVG Free and using a 3td party VPN. Periodically, AVG informs me that my location is visible and tells me where I am. The location it sees is the location of my current VPN server. It seems that unless I am using the AVG VPN the scanning is unable to know I have a VPN. Quite annoying. Is there any way to make AVG smarter about this?

I looked at the change in Notification settings. it turns on/off ALL pop-ups, alerts and messages. That's a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face! I want AVG to tell me when it has protected me from a bad website or a bad download. I just don't want it falsely telling me I have a problem just because it's detection method is flawed.

Thanks, I will adjust the popup notifications.
But the point was that AVG appears unable to tell that I have a VPN running which is masking my location. AVG should be made smarter and thus not notify me of a thing that is false. Surely in the seccurity business you can see the problem with false positives.

This isn't the experience we want you to have, Glen. From your message, it is obvious that you're upset. We'd like to clarify this for you.
Usually, AVG program provides pop up offers for other AVG programs, in order to improvise/personalize the existing app.
An user can either proceed to purchase through the prompt or ignore it, depending on their preference.
However, AVG Internet Security allows us to manage those notifications.
(Open AVG program - Menu - Settings - General - Personal privacy - Uncheck options below 'Offers' & 'Personalization'.

Thank you, those 2 settings seem like they ought to help. We'll see.

But my complaint remains - AVG appears unable to detect that I am running a VPN. That gives me somewhat less confidence in the things that AVG does tell me about, or what things it maybe should tell me about but doesn't. Do you see how getting that one thing wrong makes me uncertain about other things? I think AVG ought to be smarter.
