Difficulty getting laptop to show files on external device

My Acer laptop is no longer willing to show the files on external connected devices such as GoPro cameras or my mobile phone, which means I can't transfer files such as jpgs or mpgs between the two.  I'm wondering if my AVG software is blocking that recognition?  And/or Windows Firewall??  How to rectify??
