My AVG Antivirus home screen is showing … avg antivirus free protection is disabled.
I have entered the Repair procedure though the Control Panel.
It says that it is … Repairing the Antivirus. This has been stuck on 97 percent for the last half hour.
Should I just leave it alone, or is it frozen?
Any help much appreciated.

I apologize for the inconvenience. This issue occurs if you have any conflicting software's on your PC. Please open control panel-program list and uninstall if you have Lava soft/ Web companion installed on your PC. Then open Run window (Press Ctrl + R key simultaneously) and type "services.msc" search for Security center and change it to Automatic.
If the issue persists, please download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces. Open tool User Account control - click "Yes" Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode because there is a problem with compatibility) Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security) Click "Uninstall" Click "Restart computer".
Once uninstalled, please install AVG free http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe. If you face any difficulties, please contact us.
