Disabling background programs

I use AVG Ultimate. When I first got this product, I was offered the option of disabling software that was running in the background. This has caused some of my normal applications to fail to open. I need to re-enable some of the software, but now I can't find the process to do it with. Can someone help me find the appropriate process ?

Hello Truman,
We are sorry to know that you are unable to open some of the applications. Please open the AVG PC TuneUp installed in your computer and click on the "Speedup" tab. You can see an option to disable background application, please click on the same and from here you can disable or enable the applications.
