Howie,

Howie,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. The file location you have provided is related to windows operating system. It is not recommended to perform any actions on that file, if you do so, it may corrupt your system performance. Please do not worry, it is a windows file not a malware. Make sure that you have installed our latest version of AVG 2016. Thank you for your understanding.
After way too long, I started to look into why my computer slows down. I discovered that dllhost.exe often grabs large amounts of processor and memory. dllhost.exe lives in c:\Windows\SysWOW64. After quite a bit of surfing, I see this seems to have been a source of problems for years, but I haven't seen either a simple explanation or solution. AVG AntiVirus has been on this Windows 7 machine since it was built in January 2012, and I have kept it active/updated throughout. I also run MBAM monthly (or so). My AVG and MBAM scans have been running clean for many, many, months. My questions:
1) What are SysWOW64 and dllhost.exe?
2) Are they problemware?
3) If so, how to I rid my machine of them?
Thanks!
Thanks for the quick reply. I've been running AVG 2016 all year, and am due to renew/update it for 2017. I understand your answer, that SysWOW64 is a Windows 7 system directory. I just learned that the SysWOW64 directory is for 32-bit files running on a 64-bit system. I take it, then, that this is where some 32-bit malware lands to do its work on 64-bit systems like mine. Can there be some previously undetected malware that is causing dllhost to be consumiong so much cpu and memory?
