Do I need to have a different AVG. for my64 bit system then a 32 bit system?

Christopher, The AVG online installer covers both 32 & 64 bit systems. The offline install file is different for both 32 & 64 bit systems. Typical info for AVG Free AV (http://free.avg.com/download-free-all-product).
