If you have Inernet Security it scans all executable files according to this settings

If you would like to scan all saved downloaded files you can enable Scan files on close in Resident shield settings.

When you go to download a file like a Firefox program does AVG scan it before it saves it the computer?

There is no notification by AVG if a download has been scanned.
Thus what good is it.
