This is my work computer and I don't have the ability to problem solve at this level. I had to take it to a computer repair shop and it's going to cost nearly $300! What can AVG do to make this right for me?

AVG said drivers were out of date. Updated. Now I have blue screen. WDF Violation stop code and amdsfhkmdf.sys failed.

We do understand your concern, Elliott. This isn't the experience we want you to have.
We'd suggest you to navigate to Windows Recovery Environment.
The Recovery Environment has its own set of drivers, and it is not affected by Driver Updater.
Please follow the below steps & let us know if it helps :
    • Try to get into the Windows Recovery Environment (e.g. by holding the power button during the boot logo and forcing a hard shutdown, this will trigger the recovery environment).
    • If that does not work for the first time, then you need to hold down the power button during boot again.
    • After a few restarts the Windows Recovery Environment started with the message “Recovery, It looks like Windows didn't load correctly”.
(Some manufacturers also allow enter to Win Re by pressing some special combination of keys, e.g. Dell after powering up press F8.)
    • Click on “See advanced repair options.
    • Choose “Troubleshoot” then “Advanced option”
    • Click on “System Restore”
    • You have to choose user and fill password
    • System Restore is opened, Click on “Next”
    • Select the restore point that is dated before the issue started,
    • Select the restore point that is dated before the issue started.
    • Click on “Next” and then restart your PC by clicking on “Finish”.
    • After restart should the previous state of Windows be restored and the issue solved.
