Teresa Bennet had this exact virus appear on November 14, 2021
Why does my screen have a big black box in the center that says "WE'VE JUST PROTECTED YOUR PASSWORDS! WE'VE BLOCKED MICROSOFT FROM ACCESSING PASSWORDS IN YOUR UNDEFINED BROSWER. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?" CHOICES IN BLOCKS BELOW ARE TO EITHER BLOCK APP OR ALLOW APP. EITHER CHOICE DOES NOTHING TO THE BIG BLACK BOX AVG HAS BLOCKING VIRTUALLY MY ENTIRE SCREEN. IT WILL NOT CLOSE WITH THE X IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER.
It appears to take control after just a few minutes of starting the computer.
Like Teresa, my notebook is dead and cannot do anything. The screen has the small AVG emblem in the upper corer, except I noted that the word Microsoft is missing a couple of letters.
Checking the more details section it appears to be hanging on Microsoft Edge.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
We would like to inform you that this issue might be a false positive from Microsoft Edge browser.
We would suggest you to open AVG Internet Security or AVG AntiVirus Free program and then select Menu option which is at the top right corner and click on Settings.
Under General, please click on "Allowed and Blocked apps" and then add Microsoft Edge browser to "+Allow APP" and check if it helps.
Thank you and please keep us updated.
Our client with this issue had AVG Internet Security without the Password Protection component installed, I've just removed AVG IS and reinstalled using the latest installer from the AVG Downloads Site and the issue has gone away for now, I'll update you if the issue comes back again on that user's PC. We have 100+ users on Win 10/Edge+AVG so hope it's not too common.
I had this exact same issue this morning. This is with AVG Business. AVG Password Protection is not knowingly installed separately. The task bar icon relating to the pop-up message is the AVG Password Protection icon. In Settings, under General - Blocked and Allowed apps, it reports No shield available. I ran repair from within Settings, checked for updates, robooted. The pop-up message kept returning. In the end I simply right-clicked the AVG Password Protection icon in the taksbar and clicked on Close Window. So far the pop-up hasn't returned.
