My email worked fine yesterday with multiple sends and receives. This morning it started OK but is now giving the same message for receiving as in the screenshot nearest the top of this thread. I have again had to disable email shield to get it to work.

I get an error message when using outlook 2013 to connect to the outlook mail server as follows:

Task 'David Holmes - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'

On first starting up my computer all works fine but this usually comes up later in the day for no apparent reason. Once it is there I cannot send or receive emails until I reboot.
Any advice appreciated

I had remote assistance from Crispin yesterday when he did another clean uninstall and reinstall of AVG free. It worked Ok until lunchtime today when outward emails were stopped. I rebooted the computer and got emails back but now, 3 hours later, it will neither send nor receive. I have turned off email shield and all is OK again. Why does it work for a while and then suddenly fail?

If I disable email shield all is fine. I have been running with this disabled for some time but after each AVG update I enable it again to see if the problem is fixed. It remains a problem. I have checked the port numbers in AVG Geek and they are OK for my email server.

Thank you for the information, David.
You can try to uninstall and reinstall AVG Antivirus free on your computer and check if it helps.
Also we would like to inform you that while installing AVG AntiVirus Free, you will see a checkbox enabling "AVG Secure Browser" to install along with AVG AntiVirus Free.
If you don't want to install AVG Secure Browser, then you can disable that checkbox.
Thank you and keep us updated.
