Hello Conrad. Thank you very much for taking the time to communicate with AVG and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the Senior Support team. I will help you.
To clarify, given the defrag is performed faster when your AntiVirus (AV) is in Passive Mode, makes sense, as in non Passive Mode (default) the AV controls all actions performed, whereas in Passive Mode, there are less controlling factors.
Specific to your questions, there is not a command line option to put AVG AntiVirus in Passive Mode and I am not familiar with a more streamlined method to expedite the defrag of your hard drive(s).
I trust this explanation and information help clarify your concern. Regards, Shawn
I've scheduled daily and monthly automatic Defrags of my hard drives. These go HOURS faster if I put AVGFree in Passive mode for the duration to skip 'scanning' every file Defrag touches.
Q: Is there a Command line option I can set (via Windows 10 Task Scheduler) to put AVG in Passive Mode without me being awake to go through the Menu/Settings/Troubleshooting/Enable Passive Mode route?
Q2: Is there a better way to accomplish my goal than Passive Mode? I'm not wedded to that 'solution', just my best rookie guess so far. Thanks!
We understand your concern.
We have escalated the case to our senior team. We will get back to you once we get a reply from them.
Your patience is appreciated.
