He's on a mac air. It does have parallels on it, but it hasn't been used in a very long time as the program we needed to use has been replaced and parallels is no longer needed. He says he did open Parallels by mistake recently, then closed it.
He uses microsoft office programs for mac - excel, word and powerpoint. Many of his word files, pdfs and  excel spreadsheets (but not all) have the .encrypted tag now. He also has the three files on his desktop. We haven't opened them, but it sounds like they are the ransom instructions from what I have read online. This is all on the Mac, not on the parallels part of the computer. he had AVG on the mac but the scanning was off. He's since run a scan and it has picked up three threats  but it says they are blocked. He's shut down his computer. We run mac mini servers and I'm concerned about the virus getting onto those.

My husband has just got an encryption virus/ransom and his files are locked. Does AVG (for Mac) protect against this? I understand that his files are gone, but I want to make sure that other computers on our network aren't infected
