This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
Kindly check if the AVG application is up to date updated.
AVG >> Settings >> Update
If it is up to date updated, kindly repair the AVG using the steps mentioned in this article :

Restart the PC and check if the issue persists.
I was checking the AVG settings after installing the AVG Internet Suite.
I was in Settings/Full Protection\Enhanced Fill Wall section.
AVG would not let me check the three options
- Show notification about newly create 'allow' rules
- Internet Connection Sharing Mode
- Enable automatic port scan detection
I would see the boxes checked briefly and the check would vanish like something was unchecking it automatically. Any ideas?

Internet Connection sharing mode setting is disabled by default. It allows a trusted user to connect to the internet through your PC, or to troubleshoot problems with devices, such as a printer that is connected to the internet via your PC. Ticking this option opens certain ports which are usually closed, decreasing the level of security.
Regarding the other two options, do they get unticked immediately after you enable them? What happens exactly when you enable those options? Do you see any error message?

I would see this box ticked briefly, and it immediately would untick like something was unticking it automatically.
These two settings won't tick at all.

I do not want any sharing or remote access to my pc or network. I thought these behaviors were troubling and felt I should bring it to the devs attention.

I did as instructed. It made no difference. As for version I have 10/7/2020 V20.8.3147 build 20.85684.604.
