This worked 100% for fixing the issue

The enhanced firewall does not switch on . I have no additional security software installed / running. Though AVG did do a remote installation on my system a couple of months ago and this problem is subsequent to that re-installation.

Enhanced firewall will not turn on.
Based upon FAQ responses, tried AVG repair, tried re-install but enhanced firewall still won't click on. And the main screen shows system not protected - warning of potential for hacker attacks - and telling me to switch on Enhanced firewall. 

Have full paid version AVG.
