Hello S B,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
We understand how something like this will try your patience.
May I know the name of the AVG product you wish to install?
Are you trying to install free or paid version of AVG product?
Mostly this error is due to the previously installed AVG program or anyother Antivirus program installed on your system.
Is there any other Antivirus program or AVG program installed on your system?

i've tried most of the suggestions listed above but am now about to give up hope. Last thing I tried was to uninstall AVG Zen per the advice given by InTwoIt Information Technology on 1 April but that failed at the first hurdle, Appreciate if AVG Helpdesk can assist me please. Thanks.

I am trying to download AVG free 2016 from your official site for my 12 year old’s laptop

I have AVG 2015 installed, which I tried to remove when I followed the advice given from a previous post on the community link, but I could not remove it due to the same error message (if I recall correctly) as when I failed to upload AVG 2016.
 
Apparently Macafee had also been installed into the laptop drive at some stage - I think it may have been installed as a free trial upon purchase of laptop, however we didn’t install it ourselves. But I think I managed to remove Macafee from Control Panel (hopefully). Macaffee kept interrupting me whilst I was trying to upload AVG on a number of occasions before  I finally managed to remove it.
 
AVG Zen is probably also installed as I tried to instal it a number of times, although to be precise it does not appear in the list of control panel programmes. There is also windows defender too of course.

We sincerely apologize for all the difficulties you had with installing AVG antivirus free program.
Since you have installed the older version of AVG, you need to uninstall all the traces of it before installing the latest version.
Please download and run AVG remover tool through the below link to uninstall all the traces of AVG.
http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
Once you have successfully uninstalled all the traces of AVG, you can start a fresh installation of AVG antivirus free 2016 version through the following link http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-antivirus-free
