Balasubramanian: I had only scanned the article Alan sent because I thought it only refereenced a different error code. Thank you for suggesting I read it and thanks to Alan for providing it. Unfortunately, I tried everything it suggested and always got the same result (and error message). Before my initial installation attempt with AVG, I had uninstalled an expired Norton 360. Then I tried to reset my firewall and upload Windows updates, neither of which I could do. I do not know if Norton fouled up something but, whatever the problem is, I suspect it's also responsible for my not being able to install AVG. I give up. Thanks again.

After initial installatio, uninstall, and reinstall, I received "Driver Installation Failed" with this error code. Platform is 64-bit running Windows Vista.
OK Magnolia, Is there also any mention of Error 0xC007001C?.
