I have an older HP laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. When I try to install AVG Protection (paid version), the online installer crashes immediately after it finishes unpacking. The error code is 0xC0072739 with no further info. The error window has the AVG logo. I think I should also note that this machine has dual boot with Ubuntu Linux.
This machine had AVG Internet Security 2015 which worked without issues, but the license expired a few days ago. I have tried the AVG removal tool, Windows is up to date and tries some registry cleaners, the Windows file scanner and so on with no improvement. I even tried unzippind the 16 MB online installer but it crashes instantly with the same error when I double click the avgsetupx.exe file.
I reinstalled Internet Security 2015 30 day trial version from an offline or standalone file (200+ MB) and it works but expires after 29 days. I bought a 2-year license with unlimited devices. If I could get a license key that would activate the (working!) trial version for just this machine, or an offline installer for the Zen version it would likely be simpler than trying to troubleshoot the problem on this old Vista machine! I have already spent too many hours…
Thanks
Here is a screenshot. Nothing more to see really.
