Hello Steve,
We are sorry tp hear that. Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.
Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability)
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"
Thank you
Hi
I followed the suggestions but I still have the same error code when I try to reinstall AVG Free, error code 0xe0010058.
I still have an entry for "avguirnx" in the Startup tab of msconfig, I don't know if that is relevant?
Thanks for your help so far.
AVG updated itself today and I think it caused my PC to crash. It also requested a restart to "enable computer protection" but kept on making the same request even after several restarts.
I looked in Add/Remove programs with the idea of uninstalling AVG Free and re-installing it. I had four different AVG programs, I managed to uninstall three of them but the last one, "AVG Protection" (version 17.3.3011) gives error 0xe0010002 when I try and remove it.
If I try to install AVG Free again I get error 0xe0010058. I downloaded and ran the remover tool mentioned elsewhere on the forum for this error code. The first time it said it had removed AVG - but it was still in the Add or Remove Programs list. If I run it again, it says AVG not found, and if I take the option to run anyway the processor speed tops out and nothing else happens until I cancel it after a few minutes.
Over to you for a fix, I hope

I tried the suggestions and I still got the same error code on install - 0xe0010058
I did a search for AVG on the C drive and there were quite a few entries in C:\Windows\Temp from AVG that hadn't been deleted. I tried to delete them manually but one of these two files was denying access:
cp_f278d500-0805-47cf-b43c-f1ac6c0b59a9.dat
cp_53fc10b4-0e58-47cf-b43d-f1ac6c0b59a9.dat
They were in a folder called 'AvgSetup'.
I changed both their permissions to Full Control and then was able to delete them.
I ran the install again and so far all ok - AVG has installed and is doing a scan of the computer.
Thanks for your help and for getting me to this point. I hope the PC reboots ok after another restart
