Thank you for your advice. However all attempts to achieve success have failed.Uninstalling previous software has been partially successful, but attempts to remove one program results in appearace of an install request which only reaches 75% completion before stopping. Once downloaded the uninstall tool runs for hours without any apparent progress (no feedback). The Control Panel entries show yesterdays date so it appears that the download process has worked to some extent, but installation cannot be completed. Disabling AVG doesn't help. Regards David

I am unable to uninstall AVG Free Virus Protection which I was attempting to do in order to reinstall the software as it appears to misfunctioning by not completing scans. The above error code is quoted. I was attempting to run a scan as the desktop screen is extremely slow to appear on booting up, and I had been experiencing difficulty with Google Chrome, AVG and Edge search facilities. Regards David
- Restart your PC when the restart option is displayed on the remover tool screen.
4)Once you have logged into your PC after the restart, please go to C:\ drive and delete the "AVG REMOVER" folder manually.
Note : Please use the AVG Remover tool mentioned on the article to uninstall the AVG program more effectively.
Once it has been reinstalled, please try to access your Chrome and edge website.
If you are still facing any issues please try to disable the AVG http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-disable-AVG program and check whether you are able to access your website without any issues.
