Hello Doug,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. Please check whether you have installed any other conflicting applications like McAfee, Avast, Norton etc… on your PC, If so please uninstall the conflicting applications.
If not, please  click this link http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to download and run the AVG Remover tool to remove all the traces of the AVG.
1. Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
2. After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your computer.
3. After the restart,  manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.

I have tried installing AVG free not trial from the AVG website 3 times without any luck. After trying to install I get Error code: 0xc0070643 Description: Event exec_finished. I have removed all AVG componets, then attempted installation again and I get the same error message. What do I do? I have reveiwed the article Prepare your computer for installing AVG and this doesn't help

  1. Once uninstalled download the installation file using the link : http://www.avg.com/download to reinstall your AVG program.
    5. Run the downloaded file to start the installation process.
    6. Follow the instructions on your screen.  
    7. Complete the installation and restart your computer.

I am having this same issue did all the above steps and still having issues please help
