Add me to the list of people with this sudden problem. Uninstalled/reinstalled, reset access, even paid for the Unlimited (like a sucker) thinking that might work better. Now I've got nothing and I'm out fifty bucks.

I believe I'm not the only one with this issue. To start off, my AVG Free Protection is starting to get the "Update failed General Error" Message. As I looked for a solution, I've been suggested to do an uninstall / reinstall method. That sort of worked until it happened again. 

Until now, as I tried to re-install AVG Free again, I got this error code message 0xC0070643. I tried to find a way to contact support, but this is my only option to reach out.

Any solutions for this? I can't leave my computer unprotected.

Victor like you I have tried for the last 6 days to update my AVG antivirus which keeps coming back with a "General Error". Like you I uninstalled and then reinstalled AVG again and guess what? Yep another "general error" and no way of contacting AVG for help.
Others are having exactly the same problem so it would appear the problem lies with the AVG program and not with our computers.
I am following this thread with interest as I am anxious for an answer to this issue as well In the meantime I am tracking down another free antivirus to use.
I would be really interested to know how many have this problem and are following this thread.

Victor, many of us have been having the same "update failed general error" message for a few days now.

Hope AVG is able to fix this soon. It's critical!
