I am having the same issue as reported above. I have used AVG in the past without incident but have tried and failed to download and install AVG Antivirus Free Edition on my Windows 7 Professional system. Any ideas would be tremendously appreciated. : 0 )
Thank you both so much for taking the time to respond. I am running 64 bit if this is the same info that can be found looking at the computer "properties". For the AVG download the first selection states "recommended" and the 2nd is 64 bit. Is there a preference to which one I should select? Thank you in advance! : 0 )

That's it, I give up. This all started with me purchasing the VPN extension on my AVG client. After being unable to see the VPN or to get it to work, I decided to uninstall my free AVG set-up. I have now been trying to re-install the app with absolutely no success.
Yes, I have run the removal tool
Yes, I have tried to use the 32 bit offline downloader
Using the recommended route I ended up with the common error code.
When using the offline tool, the interface tells me that the install has been completed and to restart my laptop. However, after the reboot there is no sign of AVG anywhere. Not in the Apps or the start bar.
I am running 32 bit windows 10.
This product is broken and not compatible with Windows. If this fix hasn't been put right after so many issues, how can I be confident in the product safeguarding my computer?
I will be seeking a refund for the VPN extension and seeking out another anti virus provider.
K Busch, The "recommended" is the online installer which covers both 32 & 64 bit installations. In your case, with the install error, Balasubramanian (AVG Technologies) advised to try using the offline 64 bit install file.
