I'm not a computer programmer, just an everyday user. My family and I are from Prague, Czech Republic, so we all use AVG on all our computers since it's inception.
On the end of May, 2017, AVG didn't update on my laptop PC (Win 10) and all my apps since then, except Google Chrome, don't open due to error 0xc00000e5. Yesterday, I returned from a hospital and called Costco tech support as I purchased the PC and tech support from Costco. They tracked the problem to AVG.
All messages on line point to AVG. There is no other program mentioned with the same error code.
Today, AVG tech tried to uninstall the program several times, but to no avail. AVG tech told me, that the problem is from not properly closing my computer on 6/08/17, and that I have some remnants of the original Norton virus protection software. He could fix it for $130 - $199 fee.
This computer worked flawlessly for past 3+ years. I have very few programs on it. I didn't add any new app in a long time. I go to the same web-sites (secured) all the time.
I found several users with this identical problem. Did anybody figured out, how to fix it?
How many tech support services should I subscribe to and pay for just to be able to uninstall AVG?
I would be grateful for any help. I need this PC as I spent long period of time at medical facilities without WIFI, and need to distract myself with movies, music and books, which I purchased and downloaded long time ago. I'm disabled for past 23 years, and this computer is my only contact with outside world. As no app would open, I can't transfer my files to external hard drive, so buying new computer would not fix my problem.
Thank you very much.
Petra
After restart, run AVG Remover and remove all other supported products and remnants of AVG (ZEN, Framework,…).
Open AVG_Remover.exe (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe)
User Account control - click "Yes"
Click "CONTINUE"
Select all products, and click "Remove"
Click "Restart" and restart PC
Note: Once the removal of AVG is complete, go to C Drive and delete the AVG remover folder. After which you can install AVG.
After AVG got completely uninstalled from your computer, please check if you are able to open other applications without any issue. If everything works fine, then you can reinstall the latest version of AVG AntiVirus free from this link http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe and this should fix all the issues in your computer. If you face any difficulties, you can always contact us.
