Error message when updating

When I try to update my AVG software (basic edition), it has been telling me the last several times that I have attempted that "Another installation is already in progress.  Complete that installation before proceeding with this install."  I have tried uninstalling AVG so that I can reinstall it, but it still gives me that error.  Any suggestions?
