Hello Terry,
I understand the inconvenience caused, let's work together to fix this issue.
The issue might be because of previous AVG traces or because of internet connection.
However, please change to public DNS on your computer and check if you are able to update AVG.
Follow the steps below to change DNS server address to public DNS:
(1) Right click on network icon in the taskbar and click "Open Network and Sharing Center"
(2) Click "Change adapter settings"
(3) Select the active/ connected network adapter and right click and select "Properties"
(4) Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click properties and then select "Use the following DNS server address". (By default "obtain DNS server address automatically" is selected). When you select "Use the following DNS server address", you can use the DNS address you want. Popular public DNS addresses is google DNS (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4).
After changing the DNS settings, check if you are able to install AVG without any error.
Best regards,
Alok.
