The issue is caused by a Windows installation process running in the background. The resolution is as follows:
My AVG wont update on my laptop as it claims the Update has detected a running installation. There is nothing installing.
I then try to uninstall it and it fails to uninstall and I get the following error message 0xC0070652 (description - Event exec_finished)

Please try out the below steps :
1. End the process name " Microsoft office click to run" or "Clicktorun.exe" from the Process or Details tab of the Task Manager
2. Then we have to proceed with ending the windows installer service from the Task Manager
3. Now proceed with installing/updating the AVG application and it will work
